Cain Velasquez Sentenced to Five Years in Prison After Pleading No Contest to Attempted Murder

Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez has been sentenced to five years in prison, minus time already served, following his initial arrest in 2022.

The retired MMA fighter pled no contest to a number of charges such as premeditated attempted murder, felony assault, and gun related charges.

The charges relate to an incident from February 2022, when Velasquez went on an 11-mile high speed car chase pursuing a vehicle carrying Harry Goularte, a man accused of molesting the fighter's son at a daycare.

Velasquez fired several rounds from a handgun at the vehicle, but ultimately a bullet struck Goularte's stepfather in the arm, leading to non-life threatening injuries.

Goularte faces seperate charges for child molestation, but was released on bond.

Velasquez has been credited for time already served, which sits at 1283 days, including time spent on house arrest, meaning that he will likely spend less than two years behind bars.
