Justin Gaethje has long been known as one of the most exciting fighters in UFC history, with 13 performance bonuses in his 13 fights with the company to prove it.
But, the 36-year-old has said that he's found success on recent performances with a more cautious approach, and it is time to change that.
Gaethje said to Shak MMA:"I think I fell into a tendency to not move forward as much as I should in this sport. And if you look at the champions, they’re moving forward 80% of the time. And I think that has to be implemented if you wanna be successful in the sport. And I think with Chandler and Fiziev, I kind of found success with being safer, but ultimately, that’s not the answer.”
"The Highlight" was defeated by Max Holloway by knockout in his last fight but told fans that it will be an older version of himself in the cage on Saturday night, as he said: "If you watch the World Series of Fighting Gaethje, yeah, that’s who you’re going to see, but just more refined. You know, I obviously have much better skills than I did in those days. And that’s that’s my mindset.”
Gaethje rematches Rafael Fiziev this weekend, March 8th from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Alex Pereira and Magomed Ankalaev headline the card for the world light heavyweight title.
