On This Day: Ilia Topuria Knocked Out Alexander Volkanovski One Year Ago

Exactly one year ago today, Ilia Topuria won the UFC featherweight title by knocking out Alexander Volkanovski in the second round.

Despite being a sizeable underdog, Topuria became the first man to defeat Volkanovski at 145lbs, and the first Spanish fighter to win a UFC world title.

The Spaniard shocked the Anaheim crowd with a huge overhand right a 3 minutes, 32 seconds of the second round.

The featherweight main event topped a bill that featured: Robert Whittaker, Paulo Costa, Ian Machado Garry, Geoff Neal, Merab Dvalishvili, Henry Cejudo and more.

Since winning the belt, "El Matador" has defended his belt once, as he became the first man to knockout former champion Max Holloway.
