Valentina Shevchenko Calls for Fight With Weili Zhang After UFC 315

Updated: Mar 3

The UFC women's flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko has opened the door to a superfight with the 115 lb champion Weili Zhang, but only if she beats Manon Fiorot first.

Shevchenko is scheduled to defend her title against Manon Fiorot at UFC 315 in May, it will be her first defence since reclaiming the belt last September.

Shevchenko is not dismissing any possibilities in the future, including a superfight with Weili Zhang as she said to Mike Bohn:" Weili shows a lot of heart in her fights, she's a great fighter. Why not? It's an amazing fight and all the fans would be excited to see it.

Zhang defended her own title just last month against the formerly undefeated, Tatiana Suarez, and much of the speculation post-fight was around the potential matchup with Shevchenko next.

UFC President was asked who he thinks is currently the women's pound-for-pound best fighter between the pair, to which he said: "Maybe we'll just have to find out."

Shevchenko did however make it clear that she is not looking past her next opponent as she said: "It's one step at a time. I am not looking at a jump in front, I am focused on my next fight, Manon [Fiorot]. After we're done with that, my team is going to think about what is next for me."
